New York State

 Adaptive Sports Foundation  |  Windham, NY
"A place where all abilities shine"
Founded in 1984, the Foundation’s work promotes physical activity for children and adults with disabilities. ASF students are five years of age and older and live with disabilities ranging from mild learning disabilities to more severe disabilities such as paralysis, autism, amputation, cerebral palsy and traumatic brain injury.  Winter recreation programs are offered on an individual and group basis from December through March and feature alpine skiing and snowboarding. ASF has a very active competition program, preparing athletes for Paralympic and Special Olympic competition.

ARISE at the Farm  |  Chittenango, NY
ARISE at the Farm is an accessible, inclusive recreation center located on a 77-acre working horse farm in Chittenango, NY. Focused on the needs and interests of individuals with disabilities in the Central New York region, ARISE at the Farm is open throughout the year and offers a variety of recreational activities, from therapeutic horseback riding to summer camps, an accessible fishing pond, and a high ropes course.

Athelas Therapeutic Riding  |  Otego, NY
Athelas offers various equine-assisted activities to individuals with physical, mental and emotional challenges in a caring, relaxed atmosphere.  Athelas provides opportunities for people with varying ability levels to challenge themselves physically and emotionally and to set goals to improve their quality of life through activities with horses.

Family Resource Network  |  Oneonta, NY
Individuals with special needs deserve every opportunity to achieve their unique potential. The Family Resource Network was founded by parents to enhance the lives of individuals with special needs and their families, empowering them to lead productive independent lives within the community.  FRN offers many resources to families, including pre-paid gas cards for traveling to programs like ours.

JRob Foundation  |  ​Utica, NY
"Paying it forward, one piece of adaptive equipment at a time."
The JRob Foundation is a not for profit committed to providing adaptive sporting equipment to children with physical disabilities or challenges. The Foundation also funds adaptive sports opportunities for athletes. The adaptive sporting equipment may include, but is not limited to racing wheelchairs, hand cycles, monoskis and bi-skis. They strive to encourage children who are already overcoming physical challenges to participate in sports.

Otsego Area Rowing |  Cooperstown, NY
OAR is our rowing program partner and leads our adaptive learn-to-row program.  OAR offers rowing experiences and coaching for people of all ages, in individual and team boats, for both pleasure and competition.  Their mission is to help people of all ages discover their ability to move a shell through the water.  OAR is located on the property of the Otsego Land Trust within Brookwood Point at Otsego Lake, off Highway 80, West Lake Rd, Cooperstown, NY.    

Noah's World  |  Oneonta, NY
Opening in the fall of 2017, Noah's World is an indoor recreation facility for kids 12 and under, with a focus on children with special needs.  The sensory-friendly environment will offer designated quieter hours. Noah's World promises to be an exciting and accessible space that ALL kids will enjoy!

Special Olympics provides people with intellectual disabilities continuing opportunities to realize their potential, develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy and friendship.  Their headquarters are located in Schenectady, with offices in the Long Island, New York City, Hudson Valley, Capital, Central, Genesee and Western Region

STRIDE  |  West Sand Lake, NY
With a focus on individual lifetime sports, their programs use specialized equipment or teaching aids for successful participation to “level the playing field” for all.  STRIDE Adaptive Sports is  recognized as one of the leading adaptive sport programs in the Northeastern United States.

Syracuse Challenger Baseball  |  Dewitt, NY
Challenger Baseball is the place everyone can call home.  Syracuse Challenger Baseball was created in 1982 by a group of parents in Eastwood who wanted a safe and fun place for children with special needs to play baseball.  They now offer junior, adult and senior teams.

Vermont

Adaptive Sports at Mt. Snow  |  West Dover, VT
Adaptive Sports at Mount Snow (ASMS) is a volunteer-driven non-profit that provides adaptive sports, recreational opportunities and educational experiences to the Mount Snow community and its visitors throughout the year. They help individuals with disabilities to develop skills and instill pride and confidence that enables them to demonstrate their strengths and capabilities. ASMS currently offers instruction or programs in alpine skiing, snowboarding, golf, fly fishing, mountain biking, teen adventure weekend, and rafting days.  We have a Special Olympics ski, snowboard and golf teams. More sports will be added in the future.

Bart Adaptive Center  |  Manchester Center, VT
Bart Adaptive Sports provides instruction in skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, cycling and golfing to individuals with physical and cognitive impairments.  Their mission is to provide people with disabilities and their families the opportunity to enjoy outdoor sports with a special focus on snow sports.

​Camp Thorpe  |  Goshen, VT
Camp Thorpe is a residential summer experience for kids and adults with a range of social, behavioral, mental health, and developmental needs.    

CHAMP: Champlain Adaptive Mounted Program  |  South Hero, VT
CHAMP provides horse-assisted programs to meet the needs of children and adults with physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioral challenges.

Kayla's Directory  |  Shelburne, VT 
An indispensable resource for families of children with special health needs.  Their website catalogues resources and services for children with special needs in Vermont (far more extensively than this page).  Their mission is to enrich the lives of Vermont’s special needs children through greater community involvement and increased access to developmental services and recreational activities.

Partners in Adventure  |  Charlotte, VT
Partners In Adventure day camp groups young people (ages 7 through adults) who have disabilities with their non-disabled peers for a summer camp experience.

Silver Towers Camp  |  Ripton, VT
A residential camp for individuals ages six to seventy-five with mental and physical challenges. Silver Towers Camp is the chief charitable project of the Vermont Elks Association.

Special Olympics provides people with intellectual disabilities continuing opportunities to realize their potential, develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy and friendship.

STAR Basketball
Special Talents Adaptive Recreation, also known as STAR Basketball is a basketball program for children with special needs, ages 4-21, who want to learn and enjoy the game of basketball in a fun, non-competitive environment. The program is designed to have athletes gain a sense of accomplishment while building friendships in a small, interactive and supportive atmosphere. STAR Basketball matches athletes with individual mentors and local basketball players ensuring that everyone has fun, learns the game and leaves smiling!

Tasty Water Adventures  |  Burlington, VT
Tasty Water Adventures offers free adaptive fishing lessons. They are dedicated to providing access, promoting inclusivity, and creating joy through fishing and the outdoors for those living with a life-altering injury or disability. This summer will be their inaugural season and they are looking for clients interested in joining them for free lessons.  They will develop a personalized learning plan for all anglers and aim to provide them with the most enjoyable experience within the least restrictive environment.

Team Impact
Team Impact connects children who have special health needs to local college athletic teams.  Team Impact’s mission is improving the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.

TOPSoccer  |  Arlington, Essex Junction, and Woodstock, VT
TOPSoccer is a modified version of the game of soccer, designed to provide opportunities for children ages 4-21 with special needs.  
It provides an opportunity for fitness, fun, and building self-esteem.  The TOPSoccer program is designed and administered by US Youth Soccer.

Vermont Family Network  |  Williston, VT
The mission of Vermont Family Network (VFN) is to empower and support all Vermont families of children with special needs. To this end, we offer services and support related to early childhood, health, mental health, general education, special education, transition, and specific disabilities.

Zeno Mountain Farm | Lincoln, VT
Zeno champions lifelong friendship and opportunity for people with diverse needs.  The goal is to have these friendships last forever. Everyone contributes and participates equally. The community is built around projects, currently these include art, film, theatre, sports, music and adventure.
